My new Buckskin Buddy.

I bought this Teusday . I removed a rear roll pan and installed the bumper . I also added the 255/70/15 BFG's . I am picking up a donor truck this weekend (if time permits ) to use as a donor for an A/C conversion . The parts truck also has tilt . This truck came with the tach and a 3.40 rear from the factory . I am probably going to add the remainder of the lower trim to the sides since I like the look better . What do you think ? Frank

Re: My new Buckskin Buddy.

sweetness. I love having 255/70s. That bumper is nice, too. I can't wait to get rid of the honkin' spraypainted utility bumper on my truck and throw a chrome jobbie on there.

Pretty sweet truck there

Nice...

I have never noticed one without the lower chrome before. Is that common?

I've seen it before, and in my 1980 GM Info packet, they show 'em like that....

.... according to my literature, in '80 the Scottsdale and Cheyenne trim levels just had the "Body side upper spear molding trim". Silverados and Special Eds. had the "lower" trim also. Of course I'm sure some Cheyennes and Scottsdales were ordered with the lower trim.

So one would think statistically it wouldn't be that rare... on the other hand, most trucks from that era still kickin' are Silverados or ones optioned with the lower trim..... or P.O.S. Custom Deluxe models still fighting death (LIKE MINE!)

Re: My new Buckskin Buddy.

damn where are you finding these trucks? I can't seem to find any that clean anywhere around here but not like I'd have the money for them either. Very nice truck and will be a great truck. I think adding the lower trim and AC would be a big improvement.

Cliff;

I believe the spear type trim is the approx. 1-1/2 black vinyl trim, which I think my have been dealer applied, but don't hold me to that. According to the 80 broucher, the Cheyenne had the chrome upper & lower molding. Here's a link.

Maybe it was a delete option, who knows, it is GM we are talking about.

Re: My new Buckskin Buddy.

Frank I think it looks great like it is. I would l leave the trim off of it because it makes it unique. When I first bought my 77 Cheyenne I wanted to ditch the small tailgate trim in favor of the larger Silverado trim. My buddy Keith told me the same thing I am telling you now. Leave it alone, it adds character.

BTW- If you want to sell this one let me know...

Re: My new Buckskin Buddy.

That is indeed a nice looking truck, Frank. I am with Ken, I would leave the trim off. I think I might bring it a little closer to earth and put A/C in, and that would be about it.

Yep I have a 76' cheyenne with the smaller inset tailgate band. To me it does add character,, it sort of gives it a "custom" type look,,,,plus yours looks to be in mint condition.

What you paid really doesn't matter, as long as you are happy with it.

Re: My new Buckskin Buddy.

Good looking truck... and really clean.
I'd probably leave the trim as is without adding the lower trim. I'd change out a couple of things on it, but looks good as is.

Re: My new Buckskin Buddy.

$4700.00 . It had Rallys with 30x9.50/15's and a camper . I added the wheels/tires that are on it and the rear bumper , brackets, etc . I will definitely add the A/C but the trim is a little different and is growing on me . It also has a few older pics in the glove box that show it with the factory hubcaps . They looked pretty neat on it . If I find a very nice set one day , I might just give the hubcap look a try . Frank
