GMC Pauls conversion kits for front disk
Thinking about his 6 lug front conversion kit which seems to be the most reasonably priced complete kit it says using your own stock ball joints & steering parts. ITEM # 133163..Has anyone used this kit? (COMMENTS)..Anything else needed besides whats included besides new brake fluid and skinned knuckles and possibly a cute thing to mash the brake pedal down after your done and get your cold one?? Aditionally I've looked for a tech article for this minor operation and no one has one..HINT! Hint! especially since this questions gets attention on this board weekly.

That's a good suggestion Sammy. Someone should write up a step by step procedure, with pictures, for swapping 5 to 6 and 6 to 5. Drum to Disk. I see that question pop up quite a bit.
There are quite a few things that get asked repeatedly...gues noone has the time to write one up as they are doing their own. I know i was gonna take pictures of every progress i made with my project. Well that fell through fast, just don't have the time i guess. I bought my kit from Early Classics and it came with everything even step by step instructions with pictures. Also you need backing plates which does come in the kit I bought but someone else bought one from somewere? and they were not included.

No Sammy the kits complete for a 6 lug conversion it depends on owner if backing plates are used or not. Most custom show truck owners prefer not to use backing plates instead running open rotors rather than shielding the back side of them. Plus many that show and drive prefer the same thing. So we make it optional on on the shields instead of forcing anyone to buy a part they do not absoulutly require with the kit. If you notice nothing shields the outside of a rotor but your wheel and the majority of wheels highly expose the rotor. So yes its a complete kit. It could also be said that the kit is incomplete by not having a prop valve but the fact is most that use this kit find with stock prop valve and this disc kit that the rear wheels lock just before the fronts anyways as its supposed to and that by adding the adjustable prop valve they are not able to make a noticable gain in braking due to proper proportioning already being near dead on.
What we offer gives you a complete 5 or 6 lug disc brake system. You can upgrade it to adjustable prop. valve, or power disc, or opt for dust shields, or even opt to redo all tie rods and ball joints if you have not done so recently, if you have changed them recently worse case is having to replace tie rod and ball joint boots if you tear them removing to install disc brake kit, but none of its included in the disc conversion but whats required to do a disc conversion with stock steering parts. So this way if you have already done suspension work or wish to do things in stages you can. If I wanted to keep my 6 lugs and add rotors, do I have to buy new SPINDLES?, or is there a way to keep my stock components and add rotors?
