Door wont lock when its shut

I got my power locks working on my doors when they were not latched. I didnt modify the locks in any way, the power lock actuator just clamps onto the existing lock rod.
When I shut the door, it wont lock. I cant even lock them manually. Somethings gotta be in the way. Any help?

Re: Door wont lock when its shut

It is a design within the door latch. My '68 does the same thing.

It was suppose to prevent accidental lock-out. (so I have been told)

The lock pawl gets worn and it will cause this. Hold pressure in on the door and try to manually lock it. If that works you might get by for awhile by loosening the door latch adjustment some. I had to put new latches in mine to get the keyless entry to work. And as mentioned in above post door will not lock by pushing lock and closing, it has to be locked after door is shut.

Did you replace the door seals at the same time? It is common for the seals to push on the door hard enough that it won't lock onless you push the door in as you lock it.

If both of my doors didn't do the same thing, then I would assume that the door lock pawl would be the culprit, but since the passenger door sees a less frequent use, then it would function properly. But since the both of my doors work the same, then it is in the design of the door lock mechanism.

I'm having this same problem and I was told to adjust the door latches but I cannot seem to find a correct position, and I have moved the latches around in countless positions

Too bad that this thread didn't exist before you went through all that adjusting. May have saved you some time and frustration.
