I live in PA with decent winters and salt on the road. Should I ignore the steel tank conversion and focus on the Poly instead? I have only found two places with complete kits $180-$230. Any thoughts would be great. I am moving the tank to the rear frame of course, 68 K-10. Thanks...

i went with aluminum. to make it nearly corrosion free, reduce resonance and more resilient to cracking/breaking, i had the entire tank shot with Line-X bedliner. you may consider the same.

i would personally go steel if aluminum is out of your budget. plastic is easier to install though.

I've got a plastic tank in mine. To do it over again I'd go steel. The tank leaked around the sending unit because of deformation until I used some #2 permatex around it. Also you have to worry about it rubbing through on the frame rails. Used some heavy papermill felt between the 2 there. Rubber mud flap works too.

I had the same question msgross, and since my budget wont allow an aluminum tank im going with a steel kit from either Classic Performance or Truck Shop. Im going to have to buy an external pump to feed the LT1 but I should be able to keep it under $400 with all the parts and shipping. If I have enough $ leftover I may get it coated ala Shifty style.

I looked in the FAQ's and found other options. Summit has a 16 gallon cell and hangers for about $180 as well. Truck shop only sells the steel for $180, you may want to coat the outside. GMCPauls, talked to him at Carlisle, has a full kit for $230 (poly, which he recommends). If you are in the south then steel sounds cheaper from truck shop. I can't do aluminum $$$ either. I am leaning towards summit due to the aviation style cap already built in. You would just have to make a door in your bed floor.

I dont know if anyone else has this problom but i have the poly tank in both my 72 blazer and my 69 c10 and they both pump VERY SLOW... the inlet neck on them is much smaller than other tanks i have seen. Other than that i have had zero problems.

About $60? It will vary from place to place and size of tank. You will need to go to your local Line-X dealer with the tank in hand to get a quote. Takes less than 30 seconds to cure, so you could be in and out in 5 mins.
