How to make 67-72 Chevy Truck Doors Fit Properly??

Hi, I need advice to help me adjust the driver's side door on my 72 K/5. It currently doesn't fit the way I would like it to (flush with the rest of the body), and I would like to know if anyone can help me accomplish this goal. Attached are some pictures. Please let me know if you need additional pictures and I will gladly take them.

Ok first of all, the left front fender needs to come off so you can access the cowl bolt on the left side. Loosen it and adjust it up just a little so it will line up with the hood. With the fender off adust your door to fit the door opening. You can easily access the bolt on the pillar side and the door side. I would also say that whomever replaced the left rocker panel welded it in too far. It does not look flush to the quarter panel. You can stick a block of wood and tape the paint to protect and loosen the upper hinge bolts and lightly loosen the lower hinge bolts and try to push in the bottom of the door. Try to tighten and check your fitment. Put your fender on last and adjust. Good luck.

I stand to correct myself. You can adust the cowl last. You have to remove the cowl to take off the fender. Sorry

I was told that the rocker should be 1/8" in from flush?

Do you have a cowl seal under the front of that cowl ? If not that will make it tip down also.

Msgross, these are pics of my 72cst c5 Blazer and my 72cheyene swb rockers and neither of them have ever had the rockers replaced and they are flush. I think that is some but not all of his problems

OK, your vent window frame to the windshield frame looks good. Next I would carefully loosen the bolts holding the hinges to the door and with a blanket or something to prevent the door edge from chipping against the rocker, I would push in the lower rear bottom of the door to align against the leading edge of the rear quarter panel. A very slight overlap of the door edge to the quarter would be ok but VERY SLIGHT. IF the rocker is out or in at this point, you can't adjust that so get the door aligned nice against the rear quarter. Then tighten the bolts--try opening and closing carefully checking all areas for alignment. The cowl adjustment is rather easy--you have about a dozen screws holding the cowl down on the leading edge and where it attaches to the firewall support (don't have to remove the wipers arms) Loosen the two cowl mounting bolts on each side and position the cowl for best alignment with door edge, fender, hood and windshield frame. Tighten and your' done. If the rear edge of hood sticks a bit high, that too can be adjusted down in lesson 3b.

ok this might be a dumb attempt but un fortinatly i have a truck that has this rocker problem. this is what im going to attempt to do to solve it. im going to put a shim behind the top hindge where it bolts to the piller, hopfully this will push the oppist lower corner in more flush with the rocker and quarter, i figure i can alwas shim out the fender and cowl to meet the leading edge of the door. just a thought....

Unless you have run out adjustment, there is no point to putting shims under the cab side of the hinge. Loosen the bolts on the door side of the hinge to get the door pulled out on top.

recon i already got all i could get out of the door side. if your body man don't put the rocker in right then you got to improvise on how to cure the problem. never be afraid to use a hammer or fab something to get the job done, after all custom jaw droping rids get good # at the show too and they almost always have hidden solutions that were preformed that the fabber will take to his grave. ps. i can fab but i can't spell worth a darn please look over the bad grammer....

In everyone's honest opinion, and please be as brutally honest as you can be because if I don't know the truth I can't attempt to fix the problem as I like to fix things right and efficiently. With that said, can this door be adjusted to my extremely high expectations and perfectionism without major body work by a professional?

These trucks where never known for their tight body lines......doors always seem to be the biggest problem.......I would say that looks pretty good the way you have it now......
