Bigger gas tanks for a '68 'burban
Does anyone know of high capacity gas tanks that fit easily into the 67-72 suburbans? I know GMC Pauls makes a 31 gallon, but I was wondering about a 40 gallon from a newer model suburban (73-91?) or if there was a custom one available for a reasonable price. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My '68 is a 4x4 if it makes any difference. Also I would like to install a hidden hitch and was wondering about it fitting with the larger gas tank - any info????

I know this will not help much, but my burban has a 40+ gallon tank, I just don't know where it came from.
Its a big square sided, all welded (no metal forming) thing. Sure is nice when your mileage stinks.

tanks
about a year ago there was a thread that went through putting a 36 gal. BB 73-91 suburban tank in a 67-72. the tank fits between the rails but the gas fill tube needs to be rotated 180 degrees. the tanks are readily available throught the aftermarket and I would recommend one rather than modifying an old tank.

I remember that thread. The guy said after he "coaxed" it in with a BFH, it only help 36 or 38 gallons instead of 41. A LWB SHOULD be easier I would think.

Angle across the bottom of the frame. Added this after I realized the bottom of the frame was splaying out at the rear.
