Tire prices??

I guess its been awhile since I have bought tires for any of my trucks, coudnt believe the prices. I went to a local tire shop that I had dealt with in the past, wanted BFG All Terrains in 285/75/16s allmost a grand and had to be ordered.
He said he had some Pro Comps in stock for 1175.00, I told him I didnt need wheels too just tires, he said that is just tires!!

Finally found a small local shop that had some Cooper STTs in the size I wanted, they are cosmetic blems but still carry the full warranty, 600.00 mounted and balanced. I have allways loved the BFG All Terrains for the ride and great wear but I can live with these.

Thumbs up Re: Tire prices??

Those Coopers look great, very nice aggressive tread. I'd be curious how they perform over time, in differing conditions. BFG A/Ts are very popular and their price reflects the demand -- way too high!

Re: Tire prices??

I paid $800+ for my (4) 33X10.5's BFG A/T's last winter, thru a company that I got a deal thru... I won't buy them again. I love them, but don't use them (off roading) enough to warrant that kind of money for tires.

Don't know about 4wd's, but for 2wd's I have been using
www.tirerack.com for almost 15 years now, never had a
bad tire, & never paid even close to any of the local prices.

Re: Tire prices??

I have also used www.tirerack.com -- they have the BFGs in 285/75-16 for $168 ea. + shipping.

Another thing I've done is get TireRack's price (plus shipping), add local mount & balancing, and got a price match from a local America's Tire. Turned out to be a decent discount.

Re: Tire prices??

Don't look for them to get cheaper. Not only are tires a petroleum based product they also contain rubber. Why is rubber an important component in the pricing? Tsunami!! Yep, it wiped out tons of the worlds rubber trees.

Re: Tire prices??

Yeh....what's the cost of a "Barrel of Tire" going for today???

Believe it or not, I got mine from Wal-Mart. Don't think you can get any cheaper than that. I didn't get BFG's, I got Uniroyal Tiger Paws 2 months ago for $377.00 installed with lifetime balance. They do carry BFG's and they don't charge for shipping if they have to be ordered.

Re: Tire prices??

I can relate to your sticker shock.. After putting 68 thousand miles on a set of Cooper 255/85R16's.. I decided it was time to go a "bit bigger" talk about shock!! .. I even priced the same size which turned out to be about $675.00 I found a company here called Discount Tire.. I ended up buying a set of "Nitto" 315/75R16's and 4 Alcoa look alike wheels for $1000 mounted balanced out the door! Then sold my Centerlines with the worn out Coopers for $300.. I ended up with 35's instead of 32's and new wheels for the same price as just replacing my old ones..

Re: Tire prices??

I got my 305/70/16 procomp mud terrains on ebay for $600 shipped, local wanted $1100 for same tires mounted. So for $50 I got them mounted/balanced. And I still had sticker shock. They have about 25K miles on them with pretty good tread left. I drive hi speed dirt and gravel alot, so I'm happy witht the performance.

edit* seller is nikkiw0212 good feedback and fast shipping. Looks like prices have gone up some since I got mine, but still way better than locals.

Ron, it has a 4" lift

LIVRAT, 68 thousand on a set of 4x4 tires would be great, in fact I would be happy with half of that.

No joke, with lockers in the rear of both of my trucks I don't expect my tires to last 25k. I have about 17k on the Dunlop R/Ts on my Nissan and they are well worn (of course there is some hard 4-wheelin' in there as well).

Glad I don't drive either one of them too much for tire's sake alone.

Re: Tire prices??

I stopped by a friends tire shop today to have a flat fixed. While his guys were working on it we discussed the business and its' ups and downs. It's really down right now. Mt buddies shop is among the largest in the area and he said his business is flat as hell !

He said that tire sales have gone through the floor and the walk in flat business and a few loyal high volume customers is about all that keeps him above water. We talked about credit card usage and the cost of gasoline. He thinks that people have cut back on driving because of fuel costs and he thinks that people are so broke that they are trying to squeeze the last few miles out of a set of tires.

I'm not typically a person to think the glass is half empty ... BUT ... if we don't get some relief on oil prices soon, it could get very ugly. The convenience stores are crying the blues about impulse item sales are down because people are paying with plastic at the pump and never coming inside. So... the coke and candy sales have dwindled down to a trickle.

Have you taken a look at your normal weekly item food etc ... ? The prices keep creeping up because of the fuel surcharges. Go to UPS, Fed-Ex etc... and ship a package, notice the fuel surcharge on your bill ?

Think about it guys, something has got to give ! JMHO, Dean

Those tires look to have a great tread pattern. Look great on your truck. BTW, what are those black things hanging just below your front bumper, they almost look like those elusive tow hooks.

Those look awesome! 33-12.50-16.5 BFG A/T's are about $180 at the farm tire place here. I put two of those on the back of my C20 and I like 'em. He said the M/T's are about $220. If you wanted to stay stock with 16x6" wheels and original tires, 7.5-16 McCreary mudgrips are about $90 a tire.
