tip and flip dolly

Well after having the plans for several months and no need for it I finally got around to building my tip and flip dolly, althought right now it is just a dolly as I haven't built the tip and flip arms yet.It is a very nice unit and checks out square and will VERY nice for restoring a cab I have to pick up from the blaster on Monday. The plans were very easy, clear, and precise and was a joy to have However it was more costly that I had planned on as I have right at $300-350($225 in metal alone) in the metal, casters, plywood and of course A LOT of welding wire and Argon gas and not to mention about 15-20 hours labor to date and have not built the arms yet Plus I'm not the best welder in the world and that kinda slowed me down a bit as well, thank goodness for a grinder . I wanted to show it off to you guys as nobody know's what the heck it is Please be gentle on my welding skills or lack there of
Big thanks to Kevin @ LFD for the excellent plans and being so helpful with some issues I had locally to get started building it.
Anybody else built theirs yet?

Re: tip and flip dolly

You sure Kevin didn't come over there? looks like his.
Looks Good from here. Steel is really high now. Look at scrap metal Prices.
I haven't built mine yet but its in the near future plans. Everything I build costs more than I thought it would Kevin is a real talented guy.

Re: tip and flip dolly

I wish Kevin would have been here!!!! man it was kinda tough to build by yourself, and I didn't have a chop saw just a hand held band saw and a protractor and I didn't show the bad welds, but those showing are not bad just no where near as good as Kevins, but It has been 4-5 years since I had welded anything. I did have some formal training in my electrical apprenticeship, like about 40-50 hours, but that was over 8 years ago now.I did go overboard on the casters and that added to the cost(they were $65 for the 4 of them), they are 8" solid tires and will roll nicey on the small gravel that is out in front of the messy shop I built the dolly in(my stepdad's garage)

That's what I was going to say. The price of steel keeps going up. Looks good.

Re: tip and flip dolly

SUCCESS!!!! I picked up my cab today from the blaster, and using his fork truck we placed the cab on the dolly and it was a perfect fit
The front cab mount bolts were still there and were considerably bigger than the bolts used to hold the cab to the dolly and no adjustments were needed, that ROCKED Here is a pic of it on the dolly and one of the mounting from underneath.

Re: tip and flip dolly

Nice Job! Yours is the first one I have seen a pic of and the third one I know of being built. We have sent out 40-50 sets so I am sure their are more out their. I hope you find it as usefull as I do. I am just now getting to use mine for the first time for other than rolling cabs around the shop. Never thought it would help to stand in the back window did you!

Re: tip and flip dolly

NO never thought anybody would be able to stand in the window either!!! I have a buddy who is a body man by trade and he can over and saw the dolly last night and he was like WOW, and said it will save me more than the $$ I spent building it in labor. Thank you again Kevin for the plans!!!!
