Fan shroud for a V8 in the V6 position - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a 383 in the v6 mounts on my 68 chevy truck. What are my options as far as a shroud? I have a fan clutch and a 4-core radiator. Would the stock v8 shroud work?

if you're moving the engine back for imagined better handeling why not move back the 70-80 lbs of a full radiator back an equal amt for additional imaginary handeling

It seems like a 4X4 shroud should be pretty close to what you need.

A 4X4 shrowd is EXACTLY what is needed. A normal 2 wheel drive one won't do jack though.

I installed a new 3 core in my 67 K20 truck (V8 in the I-6 position) and have ran without a shroud all summer so far, not a problem but then this ain't Texas. Loose the big clunkly clutch fan and go w/ 'lectric fans.

I ran 2 trucks in txexas with no shrouds... no problems. They weremounted in the forward position though.
Now, my third one is without a shroud too, but the fan is less than 1/2 inch from the rad...so it doesn't really need it.

The only reason I have it in the v6 position is b/c thats the way the p/o had it, I didnt want to mess with changing it all up.

Looks like Ill stick with a stock shroud for now, try to find a 4wd shroud, Id like to do electric sometime, so Ill hafta save up for that.

Pat. If you run into cooling probs with the current setup because the fan blades aren't close enough to the shroud I have seen a couple of cases where someone used something like metal roof flashing to extend the shrould back to the blades. Just wrap it around the opening and pop rivet it to the plastic shroud. It's not much for looks (paint it black) but can be effective until you can find the 4wd shroud.

I think Ive seen something similar to what you are talking about. Ill just have to see how it goes. Truck is gettting painted next week so it wont be long!

I was told by a member "leadfoot067" who lives near me that the stock 'letric fan setup from a V6 furd windstar fits right and looks like it was made for our trucks... heaven knows there are plenty in the pick & pull yards around here and they are dirt cheap too. Its one of the thing on my "to-do" list.

That is what I did (spacer) until I found a good deal on my electric fan.

A spacer with a clutch on the end isn't a good idea... lots of leverage.
There is also a chance that the angle won't be the same causing the fan to eat the shroud
