alternator q need answers ASAP

this question may have been asked before but i couldnt find it in the search, anyway i just swaped a bbl 454 and i have a mean green alternator on it, now i have everything wired up except the alt. because i dont know what to wire it to. so theres one threaded bolt coming out the back.. thats the recharge hook up that goes to the batt. right?? and theres two other wires coming out of it with a connector on the end.. cut the connector off and wire it to what?? im anxious and want to run it, that about the only thing holding me back.. THANKS ALOT FOR ANY HELP!!

Go to this thread and scroll down to the engine related electrical Faqs.

There are several that will help you. Do you have an external or internal voltage regulator. I suspect that the alternator has an internal regulator if it is the 454 original alternator. Your truck should have an external regulator mounted on the left hand side of the radiator support. The alternator conversion by Todd the odd explains how to convert and wire the newer style alternators.
You will find that your truck originally came with a points style distributor and you have an HEI for it. There is a FAQ thread on this conversion also in the same group. Good luck and there are plenty of guys willing to help if you need it.
