Who has done a TBI swap into a 67-72?

I just bought a 88' with a 350throttle body injection, 700R, AC the body needs a fender, bumper and windshield. I got it for 700 bones and thought this might be great to put in my 68 long wide. I haven't relocated the gas tank yet but I thought I got everything here and it runs good. The truck has 138K on it and the motor compartment looks clean.
What do you think?? Who has done this? I think it would make great driveability for my truck... Go from 8mpg with the 2bbl points to 16mpg in the city and maybe up to 20 on the highway..

I am starting this same project. Got the motor and trans from a 88 van. I got the motor pulled from the van (what a pain in the behind) and am getting it cleaned up and ready to put in. I will be watching replies here.

A easy way is to strip the wiring harness for the motor. And put over in your old truck. Or leave it on the motor. unplug least as possible. Make a long story short then all you would have to do is power up the computer. Friend of mine did this swap, but his was a TPI. Worked out great.

I took the engine with motor mounts and brackets, trans., parts the drive shaft, the complete exhaust, and all parts of the wiring harness (engine, cab, fuse box, computer and rear harness) out of an 89 Suburban and put it in my 72 Suburban pictured by my screen name. VERY EASY swap!!!! I only had trouble hooking up the dash. Had to do some creative wiring in that department. The trans. cross member even lined up after moving it to match the other set of holes in the frame!!!

By the way.....anyone know what you are supposed to do with the speed sensor in the above situation???? I just left it hanging behind the dash. Whenever I hook it ot the computer the speed sensor error light comes on. Is there a way to turn it off in the computer?

Don't want to hijack the thread, but dould you do TBI on a 383? Would that be easy?

I think the swap for a 383 would be the same. The only difference is in the rotating assembly.

iirc the 383 would need the computer reprogrammed for optimum performance.

I called summit earlier and I can get the wiring harness for $305. I could still get $200 out of the truck afterwards.. $500 for TBI and 700r in good running shape. HMMMM. Sounds better the more I say it!!

i am in the process of doing it now, waiting on short block. the more you have of the donor truck the better. It is also better to use the new fuse panel and wireing inside the vehicle as the old glass fuses can cause problems. mine will not be stock by any means so I am getting the processor burned for what i have, you can have things turned off (speed sensor) so it won't look for it and turn on the light. I am also using a ac delco frame mounted pump with blazer tank. Hope some of this helps.

You are talking about the 69-72 blazer gas tank right? I was just getting ready to ask about gas tanks I really don't want to spend up $800 for a stainless one right now from classic.
If I use the painless harness do I have to worry about the speed sensor? I thought maybe some of the pain harness routed around some of those little things. For now I'd like to use my regular fuse box from the truck.
