Best way to shrink metal when there is no acces to the rear of the panel?

I managed to use my new stud welder to pul some dents in the tailgate of my 71 but in one are in particular where the dent was BAD, the metal has streched a bit and is oil-canning in the lower left region of the tailgate. What is the best was to shrink this metal in order or prevent it fron oil canning?

Thanks

You may want to do a search here. They have lots of good info on sheetmetal working. www.metalmeet.com

Use your stud welder and weld studs in that area and quickly wipe the metal with a wet rag and that will shrink the area tight. You do not have to worry about pulling the dent there, you are just using the nail for heat. Good luck.

you can probably get a shrinking tip for you stud welder. just heat it and immediately cool it with water or compressed air.
