LS1 Engine and tranny. What else would i need?
I found what looks like to me to be a nice package on ebay. It is for a LS1 engine and 4L60E 4 speed tranny. Here is a link to the package. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-Tr...18618340QQrdZ1 Is this worth the 4k and what else would i need that it doesn't come with. I want to make sure i can afford everything first before i commit. Also what would it take to make the A/C work? I am i going to have to update the wiring? Please excuse my ignorance when it comes to engines. Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks Josh |

Re: LS1 Engine and tranny. What else would i need?
Well i have been doing the swap myself for the last month or so,having only spent about a$$ load of money so far my truck is still lacking parts. So i guess all that i am saying is that i hope your pockets are deep like the Atlantic ocean and that you have all the right tools to do the swap with like plasma cutter, welder, tourch, and things like that. So if your a true classic truck person go for it and you will be happy you did. Here is a few pic of mine so far oh by the way since i got the complete so i also changed the dask too.http://pictures.aol.com/ap/myAlbums....156537298312.1

Wow that sound like alot of stuff. Do you have an idea on what all that might cost. If i found one for 3000-3500 then that would leave me 500-1000 left over for all that you listed. Also how hard is the swap. I like a little challenge but don't want total mayham. thanks for responding.

The guys in the first link are right around the corner from my house. I've past it a million times, but never stopped in. I wonder if I could haggle a bit with them in person if I had cash in hand? I guess I won't find out for a while...I don't have any cash

1loc10 i was reading the description and they say a WS6 engine and trans. Never heard of that. It looks different than the other one. Maybe because it doesn't have the plastic covers on top.

Re: LS1 Engine and tranny. What else would i need?
steer clear of 98 ls1 engines (bolt holes on edge of V/C, insted of in center) then you're talking more $$$ for the swap, harder to get PCM work done, wiring is more difficult, less people to do a good tune,etcc....

Re: LS1 Engine and tranny. What else would i need?
500-1000 is pushing it..... example i paid 645$$ for tank with pump, about 250 for lines with fittings, and plan on about atleast 150 for a tune (not to mention harness work)

Re: LS1 Engine and tranny. What else would i need?
I would think that if your making a budget that you'd better figure double what you think it's going to cost. You've got drive line work, exhaust, guages, fluids, lines, hoses, radiator, filters and all kinds of misc adapters and sensors.
Personally I think buying the motor and the trans and getting them installed is the easy part. It's making everything work from there that is the biggest challenge.

Re: LS1 Engine and tranny. What else would i need?
The WS6 is the Trans Am version of the Camaro SS

Re: LS1 Engine and tranny. What else would i need?
I think that the blower was $4800 shipped. I bought it from Tybern motor sports when they were having a sale. Then I "had" to install a LPE cam and a 90mm throttle body.
When I had my harness built and my computer programmed I had them make all the changes that I needed to adapt it as well.
