Changing to Dual Headlights. Will my dimmer switch still work??

I just purchased a front light harness off of a 1986 Chevy Truck with the High Beam on the Steering column. I am going to use my old column from my 1981 Blazer with this harness if I can. But what I dont know is if the floor dimmer switch will still operate the high beams correctly once I wire the dual headlight harness up on the firewall? Any help would be appreciated a lot!

From what I can tell, the dimmer was mounted on the floorboards on all 73-83 models and moved to the column in 1984.

The dual headlight harnes will not affect the operation of the dimmer. The harness swap is as a matter of removing one and installing the other under the hood.

Hope that would be the case. I'll get it wired up as soon as I get a dual headlight radiator support. Thanks!

I wanted to clarify that since you are changing the location of the dimmer, wiring changes will be needed in the cab, but the underhood wiring is a remove and replace deal.

So I can still use the dimmer on the floor and it will function correctly or not?

Re: Changing to Dual Headlights. Will my dimmer switch still work??

I just went back and re-read your post. Are you converting the 82 blazer to dual headlights using an 86 headlight harness and 81 column?

The 81 column and 82 truck are compatible, but the 86 harness is not compatible with the 82 truck. GM changed the wiper motor and moved the washer pump in 85 which means those connections are different. You should be able to combine the wiper/washer harness from the 81/82 with the headlight harness from the 86 and get everything to work.
