Has anyone used the reproduction vent window assemblies? They look nice, but do they fit well?

A couple years ago the word around the campfire was to avoid them. Of course the quality of a lot of parts has went up in the last year or so......and some has well.......... Maybe someone with some firsthand experience will jump in here. Good Luck!

Ask ChevyDude (Alex) about his experience with them. He opted for one piece windows cause his fit so bad.

They're a pain in the rear as it is using windows that DO fit. I scratched up my door real good putting in a used assembly (only to have the window's "revolving point" break on me).

I used them in a 67 swb in 2003. I had no problems with them, to me they were a thing of beauty- should have been for what the guy paid for them, and they came from LMC truck too. I guess I was lucky. But they fit fine. Hope this helps.

Our biggest complaint is the rubber seal for the window glass. its two pieces instead of one. Water can run into the gap. You have to remove the glass and redo them. Unless you want the gap

Our biggest complaints have been strength & cost! The spot welds sometimes break with use and they are not as tight as originals...and they just went up $60 EA!!!

Thanks, guys. I have a set that I got some time ago, and was debating if I should use them or go through the trouble of taking my originals apart, having them re-chromed, ect.. I think I will try them, and I'll let you know how they turn out.

I just had my originals rechromed b/c the aftermarket set that I bought wouldn't fit correctly. The re-chroming cost me about $160 if I remember correctly. Thought you might want that # as you get them quoted.

Thanks, I'll consider that, too. The thing is that if I use my originals, not only will I have to pay for the re-chroming, I'll have to buy all the gaskets, rivets, and other bits and pieces. I think the aftermarket ones might be cheaper since mine are rough.

I've got an extra set of vent windows that will polish up to an almost-new finish. I've also got the rubber and rivets for them. They're clear glass. I'd be willing to sell them if you'd rather not tear yours down and have them rechromed. My experience with the repros was bad. I won't try to use them again. IMHO

Thanks, my truck has tinted windows. I am going to give the repops a shot because I have them, but if they give me too much trouble I'll do my originals. thanks again, Bob.

I tried the re-pops, and they actually fit pretty good! I really can't say they are that much worse quality-wise than the originals. The pair I have came from Classic Industries, and they are the 'Counterpart' brand.

Two words: They Suck! Nothing but boat anchors in my opinion. I went with one piece windows because of the way those re-pop vents fit.

Nope, don't have the engine back in it yet. I had a ton of wind noise before though.

I put on a pair of repops and they fit and looked nice but boy do they whistle. Don't know the tune but plenty loud.

MY GIRLFRIENDS SON-IN-LAW PUT A PAIR ON HIS TRUCK. I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING TO HIM CAUSE I DIDN'T WANT TO HURT HIS FEELINGS BUT THEY LOOK TERRIBLE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND THEY ARE, BUT YOU COULDN'T GIVE ME A TRUCKLOAD OF THEM FOR FREE.

Counterparts needs to do some real soul searching. How they can sell these vent windows in good conscience is beyond me. Strength, compared to the originals is not as good, and the fit and finish is lacking. I returned a couple, just to try to get better ones, but they were all about the same. Watch out for rivets that did not compress fully, as they will pull back thru. The only reason I went with them was because I didn't have time to mess with restoring the old ones at the time. Not that I've got the originals out, I can rebuild them at my leissure.

Both sides were the same for fitment, pics at the end of this thread:

I think one of mine was CounterParts and another was Tri-plus...I think. Both were terrible and completely sucked. ChevyDuty took both of them back. As of right now, as far as I know...if you don't use originals you will have gaps and whistling and a terrible looking window. It just wasn't an option for me leaving in there, after I've put so much in to every other part of my 71'. Went to one piece and am very happy with they way they fit!

That's kind of what I am thinking- if these re-pop's do fall apart, leak or whistle badly I have plenty of time to rebuild my originals.

That's the EXACT problem that I had with those vents. One side was high, and the other side was low. Neither fit correctly. That's why I had mine rechromed. Awfully expensive, but about $100 cheaper than buying repops (if you don't value your time).

I did as John did, and picked up a set of nice clean vents as spares.
