i had a three on the tree, converted to 3 on the floor...now i have a saginaw 4-speed, and man the difference was night and day. The old 3-speed used to jam like a teenage rock band! I could never let anyone else drive it, because as soon as they tried to shift from 1st - 2nd, it would jam almost everytime, since they would try to shift it like a car...now, it never jams and you can shift it like a car, sooo much better, and i dont have to carry a hammer everywhere i go in case it jams

I have an NP 435 4 speed transmission. Its basically the same transmission you normally see in these trucks but instead of the 6.55:1 first gear ratio it has the 4.56:1 first gear with the gears being a little different throughout the whole range. Makes it a lot more like driving a car 4 speed instead of the wide ratio truck 4 speed.

SM420 for me

The stick is the only way to go unless all one does is town driving. My 67 has the orginal SM420 in it and works like a charm.
