Switched from 68 to 72 spindles, and camber is way off...

Did I do something wrong? when looking straight at the front of the truck, the front tires look like this:

\ ...... / ---- (positive camber)

Ok, that's pretty exaggerated, but it's very obvious when just looking at it.

Any ideas or something I might have missed? I used 72 spindles and upper/lower ball joints when I did this conversion.

That would be positive camber but I don't have a clue as to why. I've never done a swap so I don't know if there is a difference in the included angle between any of the spindles.

That's kind of what I figured, but was wondering why the camber changed so drastically between the 68 and 72 spindles.

I looked, and have a hard time believing that the 2 shims I have in there will make up for the problem I'm having, but it's a start!!

If I put a block on each side of the front frame about 3 inches below where the frame sits, and heated up the springs really good, that might put me in the sweet spot

or you could just cut one turn off the springs if thats how you roll lol i think i'd just buy the drop springs or you could just take it and have it aligned if you don't want it lowered personally i think these trucks look good slammed

I don't know if this would cause visible alignment problems, but the ball joints and tie rods changed (size and taper) when they went to disc brakes in '71. Did you change these as well?

Yes, I put 72 ball joints and tie rod ends on -- the spindles wouldn't have fit otherwise --

I think several others on the board have done this swap, and I don't recall hearing anything like I'm seeing, so I'm a bit concerned...

You may want to check to make sure that the springs are seated correctly in the upper pockets and the lower control arms. I had a spring slip out of place in the upper pocket while I was jacking up the control arm during reassembly once, and it caused that same problem. I didn't even notice it because I was concentrating on getting the end of the coil in the right place on the control arm. If all looks well with the springs, I would just take it to the alignment shop.
