canned the ford but what do you think.....

Well i canned the ford idea cause it would not fit on the trailer and it was more money to tow and store then to buy it. now i am lookin at this 1969 cadi. staying GM . She has 70,000 on her and a beast of a 472ci bb Also it is the th400 tranny or as the cadi guys call it the THM400. Rear end is a mistory to me but ahhh well. guy wants 400$ there is a catch though..... The motor dropped a freaze plug and a ring broke and scored a cylander. however it honned out nicely. So the guy bought a new piston kit and then stopped. I was thinking finish the rebuild maybe add a edelbrok intake and carb and then maybe some headers . then draine the beeds out of the cat, add a super fourty some dual 3 inch pipes. And some crager 5 spoke or TT2's. What do you think

Re: Man you all are gonna kill me .....

If it fits your needs and the price is right go for it. I prefer GM trucks, but I have learned don't pass on good deals no matter what they are...

Re: Man you all are gonna kill me .....

Oh don't get me wrong I'd never trade a chevy for a ford, but I wouldn't mind having both.

I've found another truck, mid 80s, gonna buy it this week and use its cab. I bumped the thread so people would get the update... i'll make a new one with pics of it when I trailor it home sometime this weekend.

Re: Man you all are gonna kill me .....

I wouldn't trade a chevy for a ford either but I too like the body on them for sure. My old man had one it was a blue 79, had 35's on it, and a 302 from a car along with the 4 speed. it would roast thoose big old 35's but he broke rear ends like crazy, he eventuallt got some dana's and never had another problem. I personally don't like the 351's unless it's the modified or cleveland. I've seen numerous 351windsors and they all seemed to suck and sound like a burnt valve all the time. After seeing the 302 in action I like them for sure.

Re: Man you all are gonna kill me .....

Well, I, too, love the Fords of that genre...in my family we have owned just about as many Ford trucks from 1966-on as Chevy's and GMC's. In fact, we still own a 1970 F100 that my dad ordered and took delivery of in 1969. It has seen hard farm miles, all 600,000-700,000 of them, and actually has a better, tighter body than some of our newer GM's. One day, I hope to restore it (after I restore some of our GM's).

One of the nice things about the 351M is its similarity to the 400 (if a person is so inclined to install a larger engine). Furthermore, since it shares its bellhousing pattern with the 429 and 460, the latter engines are a pretty easy swap too, (I did that same swap 20 years ago in my '75 LTD).

Anyway, your truck looks like a good one...good luck with it!

I like that body style ford. My dad had one when I was a kid. Seemed kind of tough and sleek at the same time.
