Another Newbie with a tranny question.

Hello All! I've been reading this forum constantly and you all have been very helpful. Two weeks ago I picked up my 72 C10 LB 350/350, which I have wanted one of these forever. It has just been painted and the engine rebuilt, it has plenty of new parts all over on it and I got it for $2,775.
It does have some small things I am dealing with mainly electrical like the gages etc. Also the rear seal is leaking in the transmission (Turbo 350) and I have a carrier bearing midway, any tips that you can offer on changing this rear seal out. I have already bought it so I just need to do the dirty work.
Thanks in advance,
Dan

Re: Another Newbie with a tranny question.

If your t350 rear seal is leaking it's very likely that the output shaft bushing is the cause. Relatively easy to change, remove rear u-joint u-bolts and drop driveshaft, pull bolts that mount center carrier brng., shaft will just slide out of tranny. Have a drip pan under the tail shaft to catch fluid. remove four bolts that hold the tailshaft housing on. Remove tailshaft hsg. and pull seal and take note of location of bushing, carfully drive out bushing. With a bushing driver or appropriately sized socket, drive new bushing in the same position and install new seal with aviation form a gasket around it's perimeter. Reinstall everything and your done. Might be a good time to replace carrier bearing and check u-joints.

Re: Another Newbie with a tranny question.

Thanks for the help, the carrier looks like it's new.
Truthfully the rear seal in the tranny does too, that may be why what your saying makes sense and that it is the shaft bushing.
Thanks again,
