same exact thing happened to my 71 K5... I sheered 3 of my four, and messed the fourth one up... I wasnt really wheeling either, I was turning around and one tire dropped into a small ditch, just enough to flex the suspension, and snap!

It didnt crack my frame though, hopefully you are as lucky.
