Transmission massaging

Hi,
I would like to put a 700r4 transmission in a 1969 reg cab short bed truck. How much, if any, sheet metal/trans tunnel massaging will I need to do? Also, what are some of the trial and tribulations of putting this thing in?
Thanks, David

Re: Transmission massaging

My '71 came stock with a manual 3 speed trans, with a column shift (low hump cab). I've had both a TH400 and now a 700R4 in it. No modifications needed as far as the sheet metal was concerned. I did have acquire an auto trans crossmember, because with the 3 speed, the rear motor mounts attached to the bell housing...It was actually a relatively easy swap..

vfrdude,
Nice . Where can I find an auto trans crossmember? Is there a company having them made?
Thanks, David

If you subscribe to the board you can post a "Want to Buy" ad and someone here will have one for you.

Re: Transmission massaging

I went to a wrecking yard and bought what I needed from an automatic truck. It's been so long, I almost forgot that the getting those rear mounts out was a real pain! They're riveted to the frame.....so, other than that is was relatively easy! Good idea by ChevyDude to post in the 'wnat to buy' section.

Re: Transmission massaging

there are also aftermarket trans crossmembers that aren't that expensive, plus they look like it would be easier to run your exhaust tucked up. CCP carries them as well as a couple of the board vendors
