V-6 W/turbo 350?

I have a 68 GMC with a v-6 manual. Will a turbo 350 bolt to this engine? If so what flexplate do I use?

I don't know what kind of bellhousing is on that engine, but i DO know they sold them with TH400's bolted on. I don't think I'd trust a TH350 on a GMC V-6... onless it is a temp tranny.

Dude! and I want to put a manual tranny in mine, if you weren't so far I'd trade you my TH400 for your manual

Re: V-6 W/turbo 350?

GMC V-6's have a bell housing bolt pattern unlike any other GM engine. When GMC V-6's were used with automatic transmissions (both Powerglides and Turbo 400's were offered) they used regular Chevy pattern transmissions with a special flexplate and adapter. I would imagine if you found one of these adapters with the flexplate, you could run a Turbo 350 if you fabricated a crossmember for the transmission mount. I agree that a Turbo 400 would be a better transmission for a GMC V-6, as posted above.

Re: V-6 W/turbo 350?

A couple of months back Wes at Classic Heartbeat in Olympia, WA had an
automatic trans adaptor setup for a GMC V-6. You might want to give him a
call and see if he still has it.

Re: V-6 W/turbo 350?

I'm actually selling the engine and the supposed buyer wanted to put a 350 trans. on it. He has the 350 trans., trying to save money. I told him I would help him research the bolt up. Looks like he might be getting the 4 speed that's behind it also. Thanks Tim.

'Trying to save money' with a GMC V-6 is usually not possible!

Dude...you got my hopes up! I was hoping this was going to be a thread about a V6 with a turbo vs. a 350. Don't I feel like a chump!

Re: V-6 W/turbo 350?

Tim - That ugly 67 GMC I have here at the house originally had a TH400. I haven't spent much time looking underneath it, but it looks like there is some sort of adapter bolted to the engine and a rather funky looking flexplate. I do know that the TH400 that was pulled out bolted right up to a SBC......
