Help! Need Engine Advice - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I am going on deployment to Iraq at the beginning of the month. That means I will be able to save a few bucks while over there. I have a moderately used 350 in a 71 LWB right now and an egine builder connection. I would like to get one of those Vortech or ATI supercharger setups with the blow-through carb in the near future. My question is should I have the engine built with lower compression with parts suitable for a blower or should I save the money to get the blower when I get back and run a lower boost 3-5 psi? Thanks in advance for all of your adivce, any is appriciated.

lower compression always, you will hate having a huffer and only running a few lbs of boost.

I agree. Run lower compression if you are going to install a blower. Even with only 3-5 p.s.i. of boost, ignition timing is going to be real touchy with high compression pistons. Be careful over there! And remember, most of the country supports the mission, and think you people are doing an outstanding job.

yeah, low compression. youll get better performance by being able to go with more boost. you'll be disaapointed if you can only run 3lb's. after spending all that money you want to run it like its made for.

Thanks for all of the support and advice. I will be able to get the motor set up the for a blower while I am gone but it will be a while after I get back to actually get the blower. What are some advantages/disadvantages of running a lower compression engine built for a blower without a blower?
