good 6x9 speakers?
Any one have a recommendation for good 6x9 speakers? I will be adding these to the doors. (1 door already cut and often decent sound can be had this way so cutting another!!).
I would like recommendations of good brands, models and suppliers. This will be in a suburban so I need to consider rear speakers too. Not sure where I want to place these yet and what speakers to use. Let me know what you think. Photos also helpful.

Re: good 6x9 speakers?
I have heard good things about kicker. Board member Tracy Fouch works or used to work for them.
I need a pair with full face grille covers. They will be down low in "kick" zone, no pun intended!!

Re: good 6x9 speakers?
I have Sonys in my truck now and I like them because they are made of some sort of plastic. I used the replace the ones with paper woofers about once a year. It's a good idea to put baffles behind them to help keep the moisture off of them.

Re: good 6x9 speakers?
I would recommend Crutchfield to get an idea of what works, they offer a good catalog and lots of free tech info, even if you don't buy from them. I have used them before to get idea's and tech infobut to be honest never bought from them. I live near Fort Bragg NC and the pawn shops are full of electronics

Re: good 6x9 speakers?
I got about 10 years out of a set of 6"x9" Infinity Kappas. The sound was
superb and they could handle plenty of power. If I recall, they were about $200.00 for the pair. I would have no problem buying them again.

Re: good 6x9 speakers?
well you want a good 3 way speaker atleast that way you have the actual speaker a mid and a tweet i always like mb quart component stuff, nothing against kicker though sony makes a decent pair for the money, as does pioneer or kenwood, just stay away from anything with the paper cone

I go with Polk Audio or Boston Acoustics.I like them in the door, too. It`s just another easy fix if restoring back to original.

Re: good 6x9 speakers?
Pioneer's are the best bang for the buck for a driver .IMO. Now if you really wanting top notch speakers. Go with MB Quarts. These speakers are little hard to get a hold of but sound better than Bose. I also agree with putting the the baffles in keeping the moisture out, and also allows the sound to come out of the speaker and not using the inside of the door for a box. Just better sound with them.
Just a thought I helped build the van that is rated third in the country for "non sponsered" stereo. out did the Rockford fosgate sponsored van, and the MTX sponsered van. |

Re: good 6x9 speakers?
I've used Sony X-PLODS, infinity kappas, and pioneer stuff over the years. They all make good quality speakers.... BUT the most important thing when it comes to speaker sound quality is the head unit. If you have a head unit and/or amp with enough power to properly "push" the speakers, almost all of todays "name brand" speakers will sound really good. Cab insulation and proper speaker positioning helps a lot too.
