A few things I got done....so far

Well here's some pictures of some minor body work I got done. Progress is slow but it is progress.

I stripped out the latex caulk to PO used for seam sealer in the drip rails, wire wheel and sanded it a bit, then cover with POR-15 and some Norton self leveling seam sealer. After that I primered the roof with rustoleum primer. Then I moved onto the cowl which I took off, fixed one dent, sanded and wire wheeled into the grooves, and primered. Then I moved onto the hood, since they were calling for rain today I only finished half

I plan on primering the rest of the hood and the primering and mounting the fenders I got from Zeeklu over a year ago. After I mount the fenders, I'm going to remove the wheels, paint the centers black and put the trim rings I bought for my 93 on there. The rings along with the hubcaps I picked up at our Slatington meet will look killer!! I put on on last night just to see how it looked.

Ok enough typing....now pictures!!

Re: A few things I got done....so far

The same guy must have owned your truck and the '69 GMC 1-ton I have..........Both passengers side fenders are smashed up the same way

Naw, mine was a township truck.......I bought it at an auction, but I didn't remember the smashed fender when I bought it, went a week later to bring it home and the fender was wrinkled...........It was muddy at the auction site, so maybe someone hit it for all I know. I can't bring myself to fix it, because the original paint is awesome and in great shape other than that stupid corner.

Oh and I forgot... I place rubber between the hood and the braces and got rid of that annoying hood rattle. I had a rubber mat that I used...it was FREE! I forgot to take a picture of that though....like anyone would want to see it anyway.

Did the Norton self-leveling come with the applicator? How much, if you don't mind, did it run you? The 3m applicator is $$ crazy! Keep up the good progress.

Re: A few things I got done....so far

Greasemonkey here are those pics for ya The 4th pic is the right side of the hood and the left side pretty much mirrors that. I don't know the thickness of the rubber I used but two piece thick was the perfect amount. If I had to guess I would say it was around 1/8 in thick each. I will try to measure it later. Also GMCPaul has the hood rubber set listed on his site for like $15, LINK, it's the 4th item down.

Rdrdave, I had to buy the gun along with the sealer. It was $57.58 for the gun and $25.63 for the sealer. The guy at Colours said it's just as good as 3M but a little cheaper. I never priced the 3M stuff so I don't know if it was. After tax the total for both was $88.20. I have an aunt who gave me $100 for books but I'm not in school anymore so thats what I used to pay

Thanks for all the compliments. Hopefully I'll have more done this weekend and I'll post more pics

Mike

Re: A few things I got done....so far

Well I got the wheels done today. It looks like rain so I won't be finishing the hood today.
The first pic is what the wheels looked like before.
The second is with paint...just a quick coat (not that much prep work because I will be switching to 5lugs when I convert to discs).
The third is with just the hubcap.
The fourth is with the hubcaps and trim rings.
The last is a farther out view.

Enjoy,
Mike

Re: A few things I got done....so far

Well today I got a little more done...and found myself a little disappointed. I pulled the passenger side fender off to put the newer one on. I found that the wheel tubs that I though were gonna be ok are not. They looked rot free from underneath and what I could see above, only to find that they are rotted where the fender bolts to them . I also found that the rad support is tweaked a bit from a PO's little incident that crunched my fender. I think it can be tweaked back out (hope anyway).

I got the rest of the hood done, got the fender primered, and the marker hole opened back up. I have the finder loosely bolted in place just so I could shut the hood a bit. I have to realign all the front panels now, but I'll wait till the other fender is on. I will replace the wheel wells when I pull this all apart again to do the front disc conversion. I figured I could atleast make it look good on the outside

And now pictures...enjoy!!

Mike
