Re: Tub replacement on 1971 Blazer
The hood issue is usually an adjustment of the hinges, but not always

Re: Tub replacement on 1971 Blazer
Hood alignment =====if the hinges are realtively decent (did the hood sit ok before?) then follow this patented method to get the rear down.**********
Raise hood. Loosen the 3 bolts that go from the hood hinge to the fenders on both sides. Then lift the hood upward till you hit some resistance. Now lift ia a bit more then normal getting some resistance from the hinges. Now while holding it up in this overextended position, tighten the 6 hinge bolts. (you may need a helper) If you have your cowl piece in place, CAREFULLY close the hood checking rear alignment to the cowl. the more you overextend the upward position of the hood against the springs, the deeper the hood will want to close in the back. You will probably have front to rear hood alignment issues which are done on the bolts that connect the hinge to the hood. If left-right alignment is an issue, make sure you have a spacer or two between the firewall and the fender mounts. There is also an adjustment in the front with the fenders to radiator support position bolts. So, that's how you can adjust the rear of the hood down to where it belongs. Changing hinges will sometimes solve this but they aren't usually worn all that bad. Another factor is make sure you oil all the pivot points on the hood hinges --there are about 6 or so on each side. This too will help. Huck |
