Post TH400 question

I replaced the pan gasket, noticed an orange wire running to a plug on the dr. side of tranny. Wire was real bad looking, figure it'll replace. Pulled on wire and the whole thing pulls out from tranny, draining about 1qt. of fluid. This plug has the one wire comming in and has 2 posts going out (inside tranny). Looked into tranny, only see 1 wire.
Question....What did I do???
Thanks....don t. ....

That's the wire that runs to your detent soleniod that's inside the pan. The soleniod is this block shaped little thing with rounded sides. It should have two connections that run to the terminal in the case. The terminal should be a plastic terminal with only one connection to the outside, where that orange lead connects to (there's more than one connection for TH400's earlier than '65).

The leads inside the case I don't know much about. I just know they run to the soleniod. Anyone else? You could try getting a book, or searching on:

Good luck.

There should be 2 wires inside the trans connecting to this plug?? Only saw one but couldn't get my fat head up to close. I will look again when I get home.

Hmmm...now I'm wondering...

It's been a while since I've opened my case. I don't have my book with me either...

I can check when I get home. Maybe only one connection to the soleniod, but I assumed it needed to be grounded, so two seemed right. It might be grouned through the actual housing of the solenoid to the valve body or something, so the second pole on the terminal may not even need to be used. If that's the case then you just have to make sure the right terminal on the inside is used.

Just a thought.

Never got a chance to check it out last night, gotta love unpaid overtime!..NOT!!
Hey Fast..."wil be on carb pass side or on accelerator pedal assembly depending on year of truck".....this orange wire goes to a male/female spade connector, which goes to the firewall, a round opening, near the distributor, on the dr. side. It appears to be original but the wire down by the tranny is really bad.
Whats this thing do?
Should there be 2 wires inside the tranny?? If theres only one wire, which post does it go to on the detent plug???
Maybe I'll get lucky and the boss'll let me leave early today (yea, right - oh, well).
Thanks much...don t. ....
