How to put the bearing and race back

Hello:
Hopefuly a good weekend is ahead of everybody. I am putting back my rear hubs back together but I can'rt get the outer race go all the way down ina way I can but the clip back. I don't have a press, I am using brake/race removal tool and tap them in place but now, I am hitting hard with no result. I am afraid to hit it harder. Any tip is greatly appreciated.

Re: How to put the bearing and race back

Silly Question... But Are You Sure The New Races Are The Same Width As The Old Ones?? I Usally Put Them In With An Aluminum Race Driving Tool, But If I Don't Have On The Right Size I Use A Brass Drift Punch. I Can Always Tell When The Race Is Bottomed Out. You Won't Hurt It With Brass Or Aluminum, But Don't Be Tempted To Use Steel. John

Re: How to put the bearing and race back

Well, I found that the race I bought from napa are slightly wider that the original. I can't find the original. I went to Napa, dealer, and some aftermarket/custom part stores. What is the down side of using the old race as long as they are in good shape? Any ideas?

Re: How to put the bearing and race back

i've used old bearing races quite a few times with no ill effects as long as they're smooth and not burned or rusted
