Back again with another project
It's been a while since I've been around and it looks like things have come a long way. The upgraded site looks great!
Long story short, I bought a '68 GMC 305 V6, 3spd and it's all original, mostly untouched. The shifter linkage is real snug and it appears that everything works on this truck. The guy I bought it from thought the engine was locked up because he couldn't turn it over by hand. However, he had it in gear trying to turn it over. I put it in nuetral and it spun right over by hand. There's no title to it, but at $100 for a complete '68 GMC, I won't complain. All the trim is there and in great shape and the body is very straight with only two minor dings. The only cancer is in the outter rockers and one cab corner. I'll get it running reliably, fix the rust and misc. issues, then paint it and I'm sure sell it so I can start another project. I'll keep ya'll updated on the progress. Anyone have any spare tires good for rollers laying around? How hard is it to find parts for this old V6? Is there a specific HEI that will swap in? Pics:

Re: Back again with another project
Good score! As for the V6, it seems that parts aren't that hard to come by. Mine is in to get rebuilt now, and I've been looking into it, most everything I've checked on has been available, though almost always special order. Don't waste time with a chain parts house, they'll look at you cross-eyed when you tell them what engine you have in there. I've had good luck with Napa, and independents that have seen cars older than 1986.
As for HEI, you want the Buick V6 evenfire unit, more info on Jolly's 6066 site: www.6066gmcguy.org/hei.htm Hope this helps. I don't know much but I'm trying to learn and help as I go!

Re: Back again with another project
Well, so far, I haven't needed to buy any parts for it. We got it running this afternoon. I cleaned the plugs, dropped a little ATF down the cylinders, cleaned the points, changed the fuel filter, dumped in 3 gallons of gas and some Marvel Mystery Oil. It took a minute, but it fired right up and once the ATF burned off, it runs quite smooth. I fired it up a few times today, just to make sure it wasn't a fluke and each time, it runs a little smoother. Even though the carb has a couple leaks, it runs very smooth and idles nicely with not a lick of smoke. I need to go through my carb stash and replace a few gaskets. We changed the tires out today, they're nothing I'd run more than around the block, but they hold air. Most of the lights work. The shifter is very tight with no slop, the brakes work and the doors now shut with ease. I now belive this thing truly has 65K original miles. I'll put it up on Craigs list tonight or tomorrow and if it doesn't sell there, it'll go on Ebay after getting back from Mo next weekend. All in all, it's not bad for a $100 truck. Then again, the more I tinker with it between now and then, I may decide to keep it...
