Got new passenger side window... But....

I thought it would be an easy switch..... But as I know nothing about it, I took one look at it, and wanted to get some suggestions.

At the base of the window where it sits in the regulator, there is a thick tar like substance... How do I get that out, and where would I get some new stuff?

Also, any step by instructions would be nice...

Here you go. Check out the FAQ section. Lotsa info there. If you are talking about the window glass mounting in the channel, you can get the mounting tape from a glass shop.
