153 vs. 168 flywheels, which starter to use
Put a new smaller (153) flywheel on my I6 250. I'm trying to find the right starter to bolt on to the "pad" (motor) as opposed to the way the starter bolted on to the bell housing with the 168 flywheel. My very helpful NAPA guy is having trouble figuring out which one (which application)to sell me. I'd like to avoid buying one of the hi-tork mini starters if at all possible.
Any suggestions on which application to use? Thanks!

Pick one up for a--- say---86 305 engine. The mounting bolts should be straight across instead of angled.

Re: 153 vs. 168 flywheels, which starter to use
Thanks, Any other thoughts. I'm using the stock 6 cylinder bell housing but trying to find a starter that will bolt to the block and not interfere with the smaller opening on the bell. I'd use a standard 6 cylinder starter if I could find one that worked with the smaller diameter 153 tooth flywheel.

Re: 153 vs. 168 flywheels, which starter to use
There are three main starters for the SBC, BBC and L6 , one is for the standard trans type with a cast iron nose. Then there are two auto trans type starters, one with the boltholes straight across and one with the holes Kattey corner from each other. What starter did you have with the bigger flywheel? then use the other type, ie if you had the straight across holes w/the bigger flywheel, then use the kattey corner of visa versa, sound good?
