Hood lock for our trucks

i want to know too, it looks like it wouldnt be that hard to make one from 73 and up work but i would like to know if anyone has dont it

Kinda butch, but I have used a chain to lock it. Did that when i had to park The longhorn for a year whiile I was in korea.

I bought a 68 from a guy and he welded a nut to the driver side of the hood latch and when you shut the hood he had a bolt that would run through handle on the hood through the support a to the nut on the other side. He cut a boxed end 5/8 wrench in half and tightened the bolt down. Works great and you can get regular wrench or socket on otherwise.

I have a 72 Cheyenne 10 with a V8 350 and a TH-350 auto-tranny.

Runs well... working on body.
Plan to get painted weekend before memorial day weekend.
Planned to be done March 7 when I turned 16. Didn't happen. Chose to do better job and be behind schedule instead of 1/2 doing it and it looking like junk.

I believe that someone said that JC Whitney had a hood lock. Not sure if it works on these trucks or not.

Got a hood lock kit from NAPA. Consisted of a short chain with a type of wedge on the end that you pushed in a locking clip. Mounted the chain piece into a existing hole near hood latch then mounted locking clip on face of rad. support. Comes with a couple of keys to lock and unlock it.

I took a piece of welding rod and drilled the hood latch where all of the latch handle is closest to the housing. then I slid the welding rod into the hole. I ran it over to the drivers side of the grille and let it sit under the edge out of sight. used some little pieces of strap on the back of the grille to hold the rod and put a screen door spring on it. worked great. kept several people out a year or so ago when I was still in high school. I'd take a pic but it's all disassembled at the moment.

my neighbor put one on his 83 C30 van. He used an old cabinet hinge and a choke wire. He mounted the hinge right behind the hole on the radiator support. He made a small angled grove in the back of the latch hook. When the hood was down, the hinge would sit in the groove not allowing the hood to come up unless you pulled on the choke cable and pulled the hinge up. I would never do that to one of our trucks, I just thought is was clever.

Here's my riggin'. I drilled a hole through the aluminum and through the latch handle. I flared a piece of stainless tubing and put it down through the holes, but under the hood latch assy, so you can't push it up. I marked where to drill the lock hole then took the tubing out and drilled it. The lock is a Master w/ black plastic shell, and I painted the brass bottom to semi-gloss black so it's less noticeable.

How can I follow that last post.
J C Whitny sells on and most Jeep catalogs sell the same one. They should work good on aur trucks. They used to be called chapmen locks. You use a round key under the dash to unlock. Just push in to lock. It uses a steel reinforced cable that goes through the fire wall and will also kill starter. I had one years ago worked very nice.
