Door lock question...

On my 70, the passenger door will not unlock via key. I am hoping this isn't normal. Can anyone tell me [1.] if it is the norm....[2.] If it's not can it be fixed w/o removing the lock cylinder?

Thanks!

Re: Door lock question...

Will the lock turn with the key? (When the door is not closed?) If it will, it's a common problem, try pushing in on the door handle a little while turning the key.

Re: Door lock question...

My driver side is a bit the same way. The lock know was frozen. I unfroze it. got it m,oving with some wd40. But...the lock fromt he outside will lock the door but not unlock the door.

I think I am going to have to take it apart and unjam it.

Re: Door lock question...

If the previous suggestions don't cure it you could have a bent wafer inside the lock (usually caused from trying to force it to turn) or your key could be worn enough to cause the problem you are seeing. You can also have this problem if you have a big box store or hardware store make a duplicate key for you. Whenever I am making a copy of a key and it is worn excessively I mic the cuts, look it up in my book and cut the new key to factory specs.... Cures most problems.

If you pull the lock out and clean it up good there should be a code # stamped on the lock case or on the locking pawl. (the piece on the end of the lock that contacts the mechanisim inside the door) This is the code number and a new key can be cut from this number by any competent locksmith.

Re: Door lock question...

WD40 is the best. I soaked my door workings on Sunday with WD40. I did the door thing this morning and I can unlock and lock my driver door with the key from the outside...Sunday I could not unlock it...in fact the key would have broken off.

Fantastic suff.

Re: Door lock question...

PB bLaster is a very good rust penatrant. I think I got my last can autozone a few years back. Dont really use the stuff anymore becuse I have undid every rusted bolt on my orange and white from Indianna. And most of the stuff out here comes loose with just plain old wd40. But I do recomend the PB blaster for all of you in the rust belt.

Re: Door lock question...

i bought brand new matching door and ignition lock cylinders, and my passenger door lock will not lock from the outside, but locks just fine, and works fine from the inside.
