Outer Grille Questions???????

I recently bought a new outer grille for my truck, and i have noticed that some of our trucks don't have the black accent around the headlight bezel??? is this an option, or is it done by whoever wants to do it? What would it look like under the paint if i decided to you rubbing compound on it and take the paint off?? would it look like the rest of the Grille or crappy??
Thanks
Jason

Sweet truck! Love the color

Tell me more about it. Is it a 4/6 and what size tires/wheels?

As for your question:

I am wondering the same thing. I was looking at the replacement bezels this weekend at Chevy Duty and those have the black around them and I believe this was stock. I think the full chrome ones are aftermarket or customized. I know someone will know for sure.

Again, great looking truck.

Wink THanks!!!

1971 Stepside, the truck has a 5.5/4 drop but i do think it is a little higher than most 5.5 drops(every company measure diff.)
The color is GM Torch Red. 2 year Customization/restoration frame up. I am very pround of it. Yeah somebody will know. These people eat and breathe these trucks. I know im guilty of it....!

I'm pretty sure that my OEM came painted black but the paint just wore off of it and it faded away. The replacement one I have is also painted black and again I've touched it up a few times where the paint is wearing away. Those bugs take their toll after a while. It's not real good paint so Ithink a little elbow grease and it would come off easily.

PS Nice looking truck.

The paint comes off pretty easy with lacquer thinner (both of mine took maybe 15-20 minutes) and if you don't use an abrasive pad or anything it will be as shiny as the rest. Acetone may work too, btw?

I thought I heard someone say at one time the 71's and 72's had slightly different black paint accent on the chrome part of the grills or it was lacking on one of the years. I'm not sure though.

"00" steel wool works well on cleaning up metal of any kind without leaving scratches (use it lightly). Mine had faded black accent and I went ahead and cleaned the rest off, but just recently I painted the outer edge back to black after looking at other trucks. It' a personal preference thing IMO, they all look good!

If I remember correctly, the 71's had the black on the other grill and the 72's did not. I hope this helps.

The only difference between 71 and 72's is the rear view mirror mounting location. They both had the black around the "eyes". I asked my local 67-72 chevy truck encyclopedia guy...

Either laquer thinner or I used some wd-40 and it took the black off real easy and it doesn't leave any scratches. looks pretty good.

I personally like the black accent around the bezels. The '71 outer grille had the black all around the outside. The '72 only had the black around the headlight bezels.
