Re: 67 wiring interchangable with 72 wiring?
I'll try to help since no one else has. You would be better off using matching harnesses. The guage harness will have ammeter wires in the engine loom amd a warning lamp harness would have temp amd oil pressure light wires. Then the it would be the same on the dash harness. These are just two, there might be more. There is a diagram on GMC Pauls site in the tips section which shows the wire positions in the cluster plug for guage and lights. I imagine it can be done with some rewiring.

Re: 67 wiring interchangable with 72 wiring?
kinda depends how good you are at reading wiring schematics also.
there are difference on inside wiring harnesses besides making the guages works, you could have reverse lights or neutral safety issue depending on the inside harness you have from the 72.

Re: 67 wiring interchangable with 72 wiring?
The key switch is in the column on the 72 and in the dash on the 67 so wire lengths are gonna vary as well. I think the engine compartment is the same. The schematics are great for showing where the wires go, but they don't help much for locations of parts and lengths of wires. It is possible to convert the wiring, but it will take some effort. The dashes are different as well, and will require quite a bit of rewiring if going from idiot lights to gauges.
There are threads on the forums showing how to do this and several guys have done it so they may be of more help.
