Help! front 10-bolt wheel bearing preload torque spec?
So my gears were installed yesterday, and I noticed today that the hubs were hot to the touch- I could only keep my hand on the hub for a second or two after about a 10 mile drive. They either put too much preload on the wheel bearings or did something wrong with the brakes.
I am going to take it all apart tonight, I went ahead and bought manual hubs to replace the auto hubs. I haven't bought a shop manual for this truck yet, so I was hoping someone could tell me the torque spec for the preload on the wheel bearings?! Thanks in advance.

Re: Help! front 10-bolt wheel bearing preload torque spec?
Ah well, no response so I just followed the procedure from my old blazer manual with a Dana 44... Torque bearings to 50lb/ft to set them up, back it down, retorque to 35 lb/ft while turning the rotor, and then backing the turn off 1/4 turn before installing the lock washer and torquing the outer nut to 50 lb/ft.
Truck hasn't fallen apart yet!

Re: Help! front 10-bolt wheel bearing preload torque spec?
I'm not familar with 4by wheel bearings. But, the 83 shop manual instructs to torque the inner nut to 50 ft-lbs while rotating the hub. Then back off and retorque to 35 ft-lbs while the hub is rotated. Then back off the nut again 3/8 turn maximum.
Tighten the outer lock nut to 160 - 205 ft-lbs. (K10-K20: 205 ft-lbs)/(K30: 65 ft-lbs) Maybe, someone from the 4by crowd can verify this.

Re: Help! front 10-bolt wheel bearing preload torque spec?
You are totally right. Someone on CK5 verified the specs for me.
Due to my keen eye, I was able to find and fix the problem before it really became one. I am thankful for that. Thanks!
