Transfer case oil type

What type of oil do 4x4 transfer cases use on 67-72 chevy trucks. And what stores do they sell it.

Luis.

Re: Transfer case oil type

I noticed today I have a slight leak going on.....It seems to be coming from the hose going into the transfer case....do these tend to loosen? And I have no radio in the truck at this time so I am not sure if all the noises I hear are trouble....I hear a bit of a grind when I let of the gas. Cannot tell if it is coming from the transfer case or the rear....or due to the leak from that hose I noticed

Yep, 80/90 weight gear oil at any auto parts store is what I would say.

if you are referring to the breather hose, you are fine they blow a tiny bit out as they run. otherwise i have no idea what hose you are talking about. it should only have a spring clip on it so how it would loosen is beyond me.

Re: Transfer case oil type

If I remember correctly, if the seal between a 205 transfer case and a sm465 4 speed transmission starts leaking, the fluid lever in transfer case will rise too high and the transmission fluid level will drop.
