What the heck !!! ???
Ok bought a 1989 Burb w/TBI , 5.7, 700r4 and 103,000 miles on it. Seasons changed and now I am getting a Code 32 - O2 sensor - I replaced it, and a Code 45 lean exhaust sensor. Is there something I am missinig or is there a common fault which would cause both of these to trip at once. The vehicle runs great, even when the service engine soon coomes on it still runs strong.
Anybody ?? Thanks Steve |

Re: What the heck !!! ???
Well actually, Code 32 is EGR circuit (fuel-injected models) and 45 is Oxygen sensor or circuit - rich exhaust. Most likely your EGR system is not operating properly and instead of recirculating the exhaust gases, they are being dumped causing the code 45, rich. If I had to guess, I'd say the most likely culprit is the EGR solenoid, is not sending signal or the EGR is stuck shut. Neither will cause running problems, you are just polluting more. I'd check all the vacuum lines going to and from the EGR and EGR solenoid first.

Re: What the heck !!! ???
Hey Tink thanks !!
I put an EGR valve on it and replaced the solenoid , it didnt have one when I bought it. It was a former police / law enforcement vehicle and had a plate where the EGR should have been. The PO said he never had a problem with it ?? I will check around the vacuum lines. It also has alot of extra wiring in it which is driving me nuts. The wiring was put in for all the radio / computer equipment. This is my second burb , my other is a 4wd former state wildlife vehicle. I love these vehicles, me and my three sons have plenty of room along with the lab and beagle. Thanks for the info !! zipgun |

Re: What the heck !!! ???
Tink is right on with the diagnosis/cure. Mine did this and I replaced the EGR valve and a cracked Vacuum hose and it fixed the problem.
