weird gas gauge

I put in a new fuel pump and it had 1/2 tank of gas in it I ran it down a while
then needed to fill it up
I did and the gauge read way pass full as the gas went down it stayed pegged for awhile =about 200miles it started to bounce all over
for awhile=100miles then it reads correct from 3/4 tank untill empty
I have filled it up a number of times same exact thing wtf

1997 k1500 crew 4x4 short box

thank and please for the help

Re: weird gas gauge

Sounds like you may have bent the fuel level rod on the pump assembly.

Re: weird gas gauge

pretty simple, your sending unit is bad. Mine does the same thing, tank has never been touched so nothing is bent.
