What do I do now??
I have the 2 trucks that I would like to use to make 1 good truck. The 79 GMC is a rusted nonrunner (was a workhorse for me last winter). I drove it about 200 miles too far and the engine and tranny went south. I got a second GMC a 78 4X4 truck, bought it sight unseen (good deal). I want to convert the 78 to 2wd. My builder tells me that the frame has only the stuff for left springs in the front. I know my builder can put the truck together but not sure about his fab skills. I have seen some of his work and it was good quality welds and such. Seems I am just looking for advise or suggestions. I think I should just get a front clip and have him install that or buy another chassis, since I think the 79 frame is bent. Any advise/suggestion would be helpful, thanks in advance.
I am on active duty with the Marine Corps in Hawaii and the trucks are in North Carolina.

Re: What do I do now??
you should be able to strip all the 4x4 stuff off, drill/grind all the rivets and bolt on the 2 wheel drive crossmember and suspension, no welding, holes should be there, if not bolt the ones you can, use grade 8 hardware, then drill ones you need.
As far as the rear, I am not sure if the spring hangers are the same, if not same routine. By you having 2 complete trucks you have all the hard parts you need. |
