68 Build Thread - Update 10/14/06

Hey all,

Here are a few update pics on my build. Metal washed the parts last weekend, got the sealer primer sprayed today. Starting body work next weekend. Hope to have the firewall smooth and painted in the next 2-3 weeks so the cab can go back on the frame.

One other thing.

Need opinions. I am shaving pretty much everyting on the truck. I am going with the NO limit billet guage cluster with autometer guages.

Question: How much of the center of the dash should I shave?
I am for sure gonna smooth off the factory center vent, radio hole, and ash tray. Gonna put in a billet oval a/c vent, billet a/c control below that, gonna put the raio in the factory a/c control panel hole.

Should I bring the radio out flush with the vent and control panel, or leave it indented at the bottom? Also gonna delete the ign switch hole and the lighter hole.

Re: 68 Build Thread - Update 10/14/06

I would cut it all out and add a flat piece of metal...from the top of the a/c vent to the bottom of the vent control cut out/ignition cut out/lighter cut out...I am sure someone will but that piece for their rig...looking to redo what someone else did...and it will be a very smooth look for you.

In fact I would bring out the bottom of the dash between the bezel and the glove box so it is not indented forward. Flush and smooth all the way across.

If your gonna shave the radio hole and not put a radio in there, I would bring the area out rather than leave it indented.

Re: 68 Build Thread - Update 10/14/06

why not just get rid of everything and put all your controls in the glovebox. and just have the center of the dash completely smooth.

Re: 68 Build Thread - Update 10/14/06

Located in Olive Branch

I wanna keep all my controls and radio exposed and easy to access.

I think I gonna go ahead and smooth it top to bottom and have
billet oval center vent at top, then billet a/c controls, no ash tray, then
radio at bottom. Also gonna shave off ign switch and lighter.

Thanks for the feed back
