i was just thinking about mabe buying an old long stepside from a friend of mine but im not sure about which vehicle its off of so i was just wondering if long stepside boxs will work on a 70 GMC 1500 from a 55-66 year truck, if any of these boxs will work what are the differences in them, they dont look all that different from what i have seen, thanks

Re: longbox stepsides

Before you make a decision let someone on the board explain the difference a little closer. I know the bed will work, but there are a few difference that someone can explain to you.

The same step beds were used untill '87.

Re: longbox stepsides

There are many subtle differences that keep this from being a simple bolt-on conversion, even though the beds all look about the same. The 55-66 year series included four distinctly different beds and the problems are different depending on which one you want to use. http://www.mar-k.com/bed_side_interchange_gm.html will give you some idea of the differences and help you decide if you want to do the swap. The differences include rear sill, rear sill mounting positions, cross sills, angle strips holes, front panel bed strip holes, bed wood and bed-to-frame bolts locations. These in addition to the obvious fender and its bolt pattern. The parts needed to make the change easier are available from most vendors. Good luck on your project.

The link above specifically applies to short beds but many of the problems you may have are the same for long beds.
