Help With Removing Dash Pad - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I want to take off my dash pad but need some help. I removed my glovebox and radio and have everything up to that point unscrewed. Now I'm to the gauge cluster. I have the screws undone, but how do you take the knobs off for the lights and wipers?

Theres a set screw in the side of the wiper knob and the light switch has a small button on the bottom (I think) of the switch. I usually pull the light switch knob out like you were turning on the lights, push in on the spring loaded button on the switch body and pull the knob out. The knob and shaft come out as one piece.

LockDoc is correct. When you pull the headlamp knob out your lights will run down the battery so I recommend disconnecting the cables. I also recommend droping the steering column to ease the cluster removal - very easy to break off a corner of the plastic and/or scratch the paint without doing this.

The pal nuts in the corners are usually the hardest to get a socket on. Just take your time.

Yeah, it is a lot of work. I guess I will try to finish removing it tomm. since it is dark out. Thanks for the info LockDoc and Bob Moore.

If you have the dexterity and tools, you do not have to take apart anything on the driver's side to get the pad off. The only thing I removed on my non-AC K5 was the glovebox.
