Does anyone know if the shift levers for the automatics are the same as the shift levers for sticks?

In what way are they different, length, curvature, or fit? I have two levers and one came out of a stick truck and the other from an automatic. (I don't know which is which and they look a like).

I have a Grant steering wheel on my '72 and the smaller diameter makes the shift lever seem like it's sticking way out there. I've inadvertently bumped it and knocked it into neutral when reaching for the radio or something on the dash. Since it doesn't have the protection of the larger diameter stock steering wheel, I was thinking about replacing the shift lever with a shorter one. Is a shorter one available, or should I just cut a stock one shorter? It's an automatic.

The shift levers out of the vans are shorter.

How about that trick little billet shift lever that summit sells. Says it fits '73 - up columns. Would it possibly fit a '67 - '72 column?

i had that huge shifter problem shortly but i got one out of a GMC (67-72) and its shorter, its wayyyy better, i like the feel of it too. i'll hafta see if hte pic i have has it or not

The shift lever for the stick is smaller in diameter than the automatic (non tilt) but can be installed and works good and looks better to me. The stick lever will not fit a tilt column, the end that goes into the housing is different. On my tilt column I took the plastic knob off and had a machine shop cut the shaft down and I reinstalled the knob looks better especially if you have a smaller than stock steering wheel.
