S-10 Differentials

I have heard that some S-10 Pickups have 3.73's and you can take off the differential and stick it between 12 bolt axels???
Is this true and if it is how much work is it????
And what would be the VIN number to it or how could i tell if one had 3.73s (in the junkyard)
Thanks
Jason

12 bolts are strong. Period. I could never think of using anything else.
