What did you get done 10/22

I had the weekend off and for a change didn't have a gazillon things to do. I managed to stay home and "try" to get caught up on home maintenance. After nine trips to 2 different Home Depot's and two different Lowe's I got a couple of things accomplished.

I managed to turn replacing 3 light bulbs in to a weekend project. How? Talent my friends, talent.
I changed one of three burned out bulbs in the five lights that illuminate the front of my house at night. While doing so, one of the sockets came out of the fixture. No biggie right, just replace the fixture. Except no one carries those fixtures anymore.

Ok, no problem. Plan "B" was to buy another "similar" fixture and replace a pair of lights so at least the two you can see from the front porch match. Great idea except the plate that the fixtures are mounted in are seized to the old fixture.

Off to the hardware store again to replace the mounting plates. This trip I find more "similar" fixtures but different from the other "similar" fixtures at about 1/3 the cost. The only problem is they only come in sets of two, and I need five. The other problem is they only have one set.
Ok will install this set and go to another hardware store to get a second set. Nope! They don't have them either.

I did get all the bulbs replaced and the two new fixtures working. I still have to locate 3 more fixtures because having them missed matched will make me crazy.

I actually worked on my truck a little. No, not the 77. I had some tow hooks chromed and replaced the black ones on my 06 crewcab...bling, bling baby.

What did you get done?

Did some chores around the house. Went and hung out with my dad and then went to dinner on Saturday. Ended up working all day today. Hung out with my buddy and watched a couple movies on Friday night.

Proceeded with my teardown... Finished removing the hood and fenders, removed door panels stereo and A/C vents from the interior and removed the rear bumper and box. Believe it or not, it's still driveable (Not legally of course).

The headers I ordered should be in tomorrow so I can test fit them before I pull the engine and trans.

I put the Blazer up for sale and called on the 85. He want's a good price but I'll have to wait to get it later on if he's still got it. Other than that I worked all weekend and enjoyed the cold weather.

Re: What did you get done 10/22

Changed the rear brakes on the 87, in 45* weather with 30-35 mph winds. The drivers side pretty much just fell out when I finally pried the drum off. There were no pads left, the mounting "bracker" for the pads dug to deep groves into the drum. I ended up using the parts from the 82 to rebuilt atleast the one side. The passenger side didnt "explode" when we pried the drum off so we just put it all back together with new pads and the drum from the 82. I will attempt to use the parts that fell out of the drivers side to rebuild the 82, as I plan on using it as a trailer and would like the parking brake to work. The pads from the 82 were in great shape but there was pad left and for a parking brake only it will work just fine. I spent most of the day on the brakes after running into town (1hr+ trip)... which isnt what I really wanted to do. Sunday, I worked as usual then came home and decorated a bit for Halloween.

Re: What did you get done 10/22

My wife and I went fishing at Calaveras Lake late Saturday afternoon and evening with a friend and his wife. We caught a couple of catfish each, but only one was of a decent size. The plan was to fish for redfish late at night, but we didn't get to. A strong wind came up, and we couldn't cast into it.

Sunday I washed the truck and changed the oil. The rest of the day was spent with my wife's family.

Re: What did you get done 10/22

went to 2 upullit junkyards today.
Looking for serpenting brackets and pulleys. Found 1 truck that had brackets, no idlers, and no accessory bolts or pulleys. The rest of the late model chevy trucks did not even have motors, much less anything to "pull" off of them,typical...

Re: What did you get done 10/22

Crawled under the 80 k10 - again. To fix the passenger side exhaust leak - again. Discovered I lost my trans mounts and bolts. Thank God for a donor truck in the side yard.

- Dave

ps: Still have an exhaust leak - after the fix.
pps: Did get a pristine dash bezel off eBay for $5.50!!

ppps: Just received the bezel. NO cracks, dings etc. Better than the picture!!

Re: What did you get done 10/22

Went to pick and pull to get a front swaybar for my burb, got new poly swaybar mounts and swaybar drop mounts, painted swaybar and bolted it all on. This bar was MIA from the truck when I bought it.

Had to measure front/rear shocks extended/compressed to get some Bilsteins 5125s ordered up.

Finished hooking up the subs and sub amp. Burb sounds amazing. The 12" Alpine subs in a sealed box with a 400w Alpine mono amp will get the blood flowing... On the other hand, I feel weird having bass now since I am about 10 years older then the last time I had any.

That was about it truck wise.
