Another 700R4 Swap Question

I drive about 50 miles (interstate) one way to work. My truck has a 4.11 rearend and 33" tires. Obiviously, this combo and a TH350 doesn't do well. I've researched these forums for quite some time and I haven't found anyone that has converted a K20 from a TH350 to a 700R4. I'm sure I've overlooked it. I'm pretty familiar with the 700, but not with these trucks, especially the 4wd's. For instance, I'm not sure what kind of transfer case I've got and how/if the 700 would bolt to it (shaft size and spline count differences). Any advice and direction would be a huge help.

Re: Another 700R4 Swap Question

You should post this question over in the 4x4 area. I think Ive seen it come up over there.

Re: Another 700R4 Swap Question

Most th350s are in front of a NP205 transfer case. A 700r4 will work but you need to buy an aftermarket output shaft for the transmission. Advanced Adapters makes them. Get the part number off their website then shop for a better price. When I looked Summit was cheaper.

Take this output shaft and your 700r4 to a rebuilder. He will rebuild the transmission and install the output shaft. This will then bolt up to your transfercase adapter because the back of the 700 is the same as the 350.

You need to either move your engine forward approximately 2 inches or leave the engine and move the transfer case back as the 700r4 is slightly longer than the th350.

Most guys move the engine forward because you then don't have to cut the rear driveshaft and lengthen the front.
