Just A Few Pics
I've never posted pics befoe but here is my first try. This is my 1969 C10. I got this for $500 and drove it home that day. The brakes need some work but it is driveable. I tried to sand a little of the rust off and spray some primer from a can just to keep it from rusting anymoe. the motor is out of a 1971 Monte Carlo. The guy told me it has double hump heads but i am not sure of the casting numbers yet. He also said that he bought a cam from a local Chevy dealer but he couldn't remember the specs. He said it ran around $300. I hope you all enjoy. This is my first project so I will be larning as I go.

Those heads are double humps by the way. If you look on your fifth picture where your fuel line almost touches the head you can see the "doublehump" or "camelhump" Just one way to identify them.

Welcome from Colo. My wife and I have some friends in Harriman, pretty close to your neck of the woods. A running truck for $500 is good. You could get almost half your money back selling the valve covers. It looks a little rusty on the firewall, how bad is it?

drivable is always a good thing. like said above sell the corvette valve covers and put it into a tune up for the engine (the right size air-cleaner-14"
,plugs,wires,cap/rotor,oil,filter,rad flush etc.) and im betting it will run strong for a long time. def. a good deal since you got a set of camelback heads with the engine. looks like ya got some rust repairs to get on though Last edited by QKENUF4U; 10-08-2006 at 07:38 PM. |

Great job! I'm diggin the valve covers and the glovebox speaker mod! Someone is always comin up with another solution for mounting speakers in these bad boys!

Looks like a pretty good deal for 500. Like the glove box speaker box. Deffinently different. It looks like the cab is pretty well wasted but of course you can always get another cab. Still killer deal. Hay if I was you I would keep the valve covers. I like them cause there aluminum and they seal alot better than steal and the important thing, they look cool.

Thanks for the comments. The only bad thing about the speaker in the glove box is he didn't keep the cover. I wished I had this instead of the speakers. It's hard to work on something with no garage but I work on it as I can. What were the valve covers originally on? I have heard that they were fairly pricey.

Last time I saw them, sold as repalcements in a catalog, was about 130 per side, and that was about 5 years ago. As for you wanting the glove box door they sell them new, look on the parts board, or find one in a junk yard.

Where the fuel line comes up right in front of the heads on this picture, there is a camelhump or doublehump cast into the actual head. Thats how you identify a set as being "doublehumps" or "camelhumps."

I think they are the big valve heads? 202's instead of 194's? Someone will chime in soon with a right answer, as I have since forgotten.

I'd sell the heads to some one who thinks they are still worth something and then buy better ones... cheaper.
5 bills and drove it home... you just can't beat that. I only drove one of my trucks home... and I shouldn't have. Interestingly enough, it was also the one I paid the most for. ($1000) |

According to the casting numbers they are the 291 heads. I looked the numbers up on mortec and it said a 67-68 model year with a 64cc chamber. I am in the process of rebuilding the motor now. I was going to replace the valve cover gaskets and fix the oil leak but that turned into another project. I went to take the intake off and have it bead blasted but when I did I didn't drain the radiator. The coolant went everywhere and into the motor. It's a good thing because the motor really needs a good cleaning. I guess I will replace the clutch, add headers, clean the engine compartment, and try and find a new frontend with discs and power steering. Oh well, something to keep me busy through the winter.

I used the complete front crossmember and power steering box out of a 1973 chevy 1/2 ton 2wheel drive in one of my trucks and the same out of a 1977 pickup in the other. I think the later ones are the same from 73-80 or 81. If you have the motor out this is the way I would go. You have to redrill one hole in the frame on each side and enlarge another one. (see pics) other than that it is a bolt in. The hole that has to be re-drilled can be done on the outside of the frame after the crossmember is in but the one that has to be enlarged has to be done before. LockDoc
