Shallow Mount Subs
Sorry, another stereo thread, but I saw these Pioneer shallow mount subs last night and was wondering if anyone had them installed or knew anyone who did.
The model is Pioneer TS-SW124D. Only 3" depth for a 12" woofer. I'm sure they can't be as good as a regular speaker so I was wondering if you guys had any experience with them. |

Re: Shallow Mount Subs
I am dying to know the answer to this, because I've been eyeing the exact same sub. However I'm thinking of going with a set of two 10s for sharper response, but that's just me. I am really wondering how the shallow mounts perform.

Re: Shallow Mount Subs
I actually got bored over lunch and read through some audio forums. It seems that they will put out good bass, just not as much as a regular speaker. They don't have the excursion of a normal speaker, so obviously they don't move as much air. I found some who really like em and some who really hated them (typical for any reivews or opinions). Putting 8 inch subs behind the seat is a cmomon fix, but many forums siad that the pioneers will play to the lower frequencis an 8" can't reproduce. After reading about them I think I am definietly still interested and they are awesome if you have very little space.

Re: Shallow Mount Subs
so to answer your ? about the subs... they are great. I manage a stereo shop and we have had lots of happy customers using them. the only down fall to them is that they are very power hungry. we usally run about a true 400 watts rms to each. but they do sound really good. another thing is if u decide to get some make sure u build the box to spec, they dont work well in any thing else.
