anyone with a 4 spd ever have this problem???

I have a K10 (dont think it matters 4X4 or 2wd) with a 4spd.....while driving the other day got a little to aggresive on the shift from 2-3 (or 1st to second depending on how you look at it ) and boom the truck would not shift into any gear.....shifter would go left to right and right to left but would not go up or down to get into any gear..(was stuck in neutral).....played with it for 20 min. before giving up and towing it home.......here is the strange part....next morning go out to truck and it is fine.....shifts like nothing happened.....just curious if anyone has ever had this happen and if it means something internally (fork??) is worn out in the tranny....maybe a gear hung up and did not totally disengage before the fork came out thus not letting me into any other gear????.......Thanks.....

I've not had that happen. Of course I've never gotten my truck that PO'd either.

it gets stuck in 2 gears at once, after you move the truck alittle the gears arent meshed the same and can be freed up easily.

i did the same thing, got on it and tried to quick shift and it jambed up, got pulled into a parking lot and pulled the shifter of and was able to slide the rails back into place with a big screwdriver.

IF the tranny stuck in 2 gears at once it would lock up the driveline and/or explode!!!

If it stuck in neutral, something inside the tranny (likely a shift fork) flexed or is worn out just enough to cause you a problem. I've had a 4-speed do what trkklr77's did, and was an easy fix (remove shifter, line up the slides, reinstall). Hopefully yours was a one-time occurence.

i remember in high school my buddys 70 did this if he tried speed shifing it, some careful ramming of the shifter popped em back in

Re: anyone with a 4 spd ever have this problem???

It could happen again if you speed shift it. My son did it to my 72 to often. All I would do is push or tow it a few yards and it would go back into netural. Never did any damage to the trans.
